As in each of the hotels of the collection, contemporary art is present everywhere at Les Hautes Mers, whether it is photographs, drawings or sculptures. The water, the sea and the marine world are the themes that link artists with very different practices.
A special place has been reserved for the work of Marie Bathellier, an artist who lives and works on l'Île d'Yeu and whose sculptures made of floats picked up on the shore adorn the salons.
Echoing this work, photographs by Laurent Millet - an artist living in La Rochelle - from the "Hold the Line" and "Les Petites Machines" series present small poetic constructions made with recycled objects found on the beaches of Vendée and Charente-Maritime.
Charles Freger's photographs from the "Wilder Mann" series evoke the imaginary world of rural masquerades in different European countries that are reminiscent of the incredible repertoire of Island tales and legends.
From the drawings of Pierrick Naud, an artist from Nantes, to the works of the South African photographer Berni Searle, it is a world of travel, of transformation linked to the marine universe, which is shown through the artists presented at Les Hautes Mers.
